First Morning of Summer Break

Sun angles in the east dining room window onto
dark purple lilacs raided from an old farmstead
steam curls up from a white mug.

  1. I am glad to hear that there are lilacs blooming somewhere in the world! Ten feet from my kitchen window is my lilac sporting what looks like bits of burnt toast where blossoms once were.

  2. I like your discription of bloomed out lilacs. Later on in the season the seedpods are interesting. You'd have loved the old lilacs we picked these from. One tree was dark, dark purple, with larger than usual florets. The other was a more traditional light lilac color. Both trees were around 20' tall and of huge circumference. It would be interesting to know how long ago they were planted there.
