California Quail

California quail pop 
through the garden fence,
cross the yard feet spinning
like the side wheels
of river paddle boats.

    I do miss our pheasants here. We had a bird flu. There might be a few up the hill... We'll just have to make due with the American Kestrel, The Red Tail Hawks, Red Wing Black Birds and other birdie friends.
